Bonnies Travel To New Mexico For Four-Game Set

The St. Bonaventure University baseball team will head out on its second road trip of the season with a four-game series at New Mexico, which includes a doubleheader on Saturday. Friday's single game is set for a 2:00 p.m. MT/4:00 p.m. ET start time.
 
OPENING WEEKEND NOTES
  • The Bonnies began the 2023 season with a four-game series at Middle Tennessee last weekend.
  • Senior designated hitter Thomas Grilli led the Bonnies at the plate, delivering five runs batted in and hitting the team's first home run of the new campaign.
  • In his first collegiate series, freshman leadoff hitter Jayce Tharnish went 5-for-15 at the plate, while junior college transfer Adam Rankie was 5-for-16 against Blue Raiders' pitching.
  • Graduate student Liam Devine started the final game of the series on the mound, throwing 5.2 solid innings with five strikeouts and allowing just two runs.
  • Along with Grilli, Jack Putney, Pierce Hendershot and freshman Evan Dieter each delivered an extra-base hit for St. Bonaventure.
  • Left-handed pitcher Kyle Caringi registered a scoreless inning out of the bullpen with a strikeout in the first game of the series.

ABOUT NEW MEXICO
  • The Lobos are coming off a three-game sweep of Northern Colorado last weekend to give them a 6-1 record. In their first game of the season, they knocked off nationally ranked Oregon State by a score of 7-2.
  • Starting pitchers Riley Egloff (10 IP/one earned run/15 strikeouts) and Tristin Lively (12 IP/two earned runs/13 strikeouts) lead the team on the mound.
  • At the plate, 2022 All-Mountain West Second Teamer and Preseason All Mountain-West outfielder Lenny Junior Ashby is 11-for-28 this season with runs batted in, while fellow outfielder Jeffrey David has recorded 12 hits in his 30-plate appearances while knocking in 14 runners.
  • New Mexico was picked to finish seventh in the Mountain West Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
