OPENING KICKOFF
The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team continues its four-game homestand by hosting a pair of games Thursday and Sunday at the Marra Athletics Complex. The Bonnies will host the Marist Red Foxes on Thursday before welcoming Detroit Mercy on Sunday afternoon.
FIRST WEEK RECAP
Bona's started their season last Thursday with a 2-2 tie at Eastern Michigan before falling, 3-1, to Cleveland State in the home opener on Saturday.
OFF TO A HOT START
St. Bonaventure sophomore
Ami Komori had an outstanding first week, netting three goals. Komori equaled her goal output for all of last season in just two games as she scored twice at Eastern Michigan and then notched another tally vs. CSU. She finished last year with eight points to earn a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team.
MAKING A SPLASH
Sophomore
Olivia Allen has made an immediate impact in her first two games with the program. Allen, who spent last year at the University of Ottawa where she scored six goals with an assist, handed out both assists in Bona's opener at EMU as she was credited with helpers on both of Komori's goals.
ADDED IMPACT
Junior center back
Sydney Hayward has seen an increased role at the start of the season. She played full time in both of last week's games. In her first two seasons, Hayward played a combined 163 minutes and has surpassed that total (180) in just the opening two contests of this year's campaign.
CAREER MILESTONES
Junior goalkeeper
Chiara Gottinger continues to rise in the Bonnies program record books. She enters Thursday's game with 299 career saves, ranking fifth in school history. She's set to join Karen Cunningham, '01, Brooke Lang, '92, Lauren Malcolm, '19, and Margaret Reif, '97, as the only players in Bonnies history to reach 300 career saves. Gottinger is also one shutout away from tying Cunningham for fifth in Bona's history with 11 clean sheets.
ABOUT MARIST
- The Red Foxes have only played one game thus far, falling 3-0 in their opener vs. Villanova Aug. 17.
- Marist was picked seventh in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Poll, led by graduate student Samantha Sturno who was a preseason All-MAAC pick and First Team selection on the backline last year.
- Marist finished last year 5-7-5 and went 3-5 in MAAC play. The Red Foxes are led by first-year head coach Nicole Pacapelli, who came to Marist from Binghamton where she was on a staff that went 23-15-8 the past three seasons.
SERIES HISTORY
The two teams have some recent history, opening the season last year in Poughkeepsie with a 2-2 tie. St. Bonaventure is 2-0-1 against Marist all-time, scoring wins in 2002 and 2004.
ABOUT DETROIT MERCY
- The Titans have a two-game Western New York road swing as they play at Canisius Thursday night before making the trip to St. Bonaventure on Sunday.
- Detroit Mercy is seeking its first win after tying Central Michigan, 3-3, in the opener on home turf before falling at home to Morehead State, 5-2, over the weekend.
- Four different players have scored goals for Detroit Mercy through two games: Ashley Bates, Karsen Murray, Gabby Ketola and Erica Toupin have all found the back of the net already.
- Detroit Mercy has struggled defensively, allowing eight goals through two games. Eva Hill and Jasmine Scott have split time evenly, each playing one full game in net.
- Detroit Mercy finished last season 6-10-1 overall and 4-6 in Horizon League play, returning 21 players from that squad this summer.
