LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Rainy conditions Saturday at the Lock Haven Invitational didn't stop the St. Bonaventure men's cross country team from setting a host of personal bests, highlighted by another school record from junior Clay Peets.
Peets was at the head of the Bonnies pack, crushing his previous school record 8K time in the Crimson race by more than a full minute. He crossed the finish line at the West Branch Cross Country Course in a time of 24:16.3 – that effort was good for seventh out of 200 competitors representing 45 different schools. In addition, he easily surpassed his previous best of 25:21.1 set last year at Buffalo's Delaware Park.
Sophomore teammate Aiden Scattergood also beat the previous school record as he ran a mark of 25:05.5, finishing 34th in the large field.
As a team, the Bonnies finished eighth out of 35 teams competing.
Bona's top five all set new PR marks.
Zane Courtwright was third on the team at 25:36.4 while both Colin McCarthy (26:23.4) and Ethan Luce (26:38.0) established new PR times. Freshman Lucas Catarella ran his first collegiate 8K in 26:51.5 while Casey Malloy also PR'ed at 27:01.0. Brian Gleason rounded out Bona's eight runners in the Crimson race at 27:51.2.
Peets, Scattergood and Courtwright now occupy the top three individual spots in the program record books while McCarthy jumps to 11th and Luce into a tie for 15th.
In the White 8K race, freshman Joshua Lopez continued the re-writing of the program record book as he set the ninth-fastest individual time in school history with a run of 26:14.9. Kieran Ryan, Owen Noecker and Aiden Holt all recorded PR times as well, all finishing in the top half of the field including over 180 runners.
SBU finished sixth out of 21 teams competing in the White race.
The Bonnies are back in action next Saturday at the Paul Short Invitational.
