CHARLESTON, S.C. – St. Bonaventure baseball kicked off the 2024 season Friday afternoon, but unfortunately for the Bonnies, The Citadel roared out of the gates and never looked back en route to a 14-2 victory.

After the Bonnies went in order in their half of the first, The Citadel sent 12 batters to the plate in a seven-run frame that lasted over a half hour.

From there, the hosts were in complete control.

The Citadel (1-0) added one in the third and five in the sixth to extend the lead.

The Bonnies (0-1) had a chance to score in the sixth when Adam Rankie walked with one out and went to third on a double down the right field line off the bat of Kyle Caccamise. The inning ended, however, on the double play as Rankie was thrown out at home attempting to tag and score on a fly out to center.

Caccamise finally got the Brown and White on the board in the eighth as he tripled to center, plating Paul Vossen from first. David Marshall Jr. followed up with a single to right, bringing home Caccamise.

Jack Putney also had two hits for the Bonnies.

Chance Moore pitched well in his Bona debut, working five innings out of the bullpen. He scattered six hits and surrendered only one earned run. Chase Playfair tossed a scoreless eighth with a strikeout.

The two squads get back together Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
