Box Score BRONX, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure led in the middle innings but could not hold on as Fordham surged ahead for a 7-5 victory in the series finale Saturday at Houlihan Park.
The Bonnies scored four times between the fourth and fifth innings to grab a 4-1 advantage.
Ryan Davis got the Bonnies on the board with a run-scoring double off the fence in right-center. Later in the fourth inning, a perfectly placed hit by Jayce Tharnish in the hole at short plated another for Bona's first lead.
In the fifth, two runs crossed the plate on a thrilling inside-the-park home run from Harison Kaufman.
Kaufman dumped a line drive in front of Fordham's diving center fielder and with the ball rolling to the wall, Bona's third baseman hustled around the diamond and slid home for his second homer of the series.
The Rams got back within 4-3 in the home half of the fifth and took the lead for good in the sixth on a two-run homer from Tommy McAndrews that stood after a long umpire delay to check McAndrews' bat.
Fordham added two insurance runs in the seventh and never relinquished control.
David Marshall Jr. racked up three hits while Davis, Kaufman and Tharnish all had two apiece.
Gabe Watts (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K) started and was followed by Alex Barger (4.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K) out of the bullpen. Gilbert Saunders III also tossed two scoreless frames.
