SERIES HISTORY VS RICHMOND
The Bonnies are 2-20 against the Spiders all-time. Bona's last win over the Spiders came in that historic 2006 season that saw the Bonnies reach a national ranking of No. 18 after starting the season 13-0. The Brown and White average 8.45 goals against the Spiders.
Richmond and St. Bonaventure met on March 22 in a regular season meeting at the Marra Athletics Complex, with Richmond coming out victorious, 13-9. It was a back-and-forth affair, with each team matching each other in the first three quarters. The Spiders pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bonnies 4-0 in the final stanza.
Â
SCORING PHENOMS
The Bonnies set a program record for most goals in a season with 231, averaging over 13.5 per game. The previous record of 229 was set in 2004. For the first time in program history, the Bonnies scored 20 or more goals in two Atlantic 10 games. They also set a program record for goals in an A-10 game at Rhode Island with 22.
Â
PIPER POWER
Junior
Brooke Piper set the Bona's single-season goals record last weekend with her first goal at GW, giving her 63 on the season. She broke the previous mark set by
Molly Hastrich in 2009 when she led the A-10 with 62 goals. Piper is also two points away from tying Hastrich's single-season points record of 77, also set in 2009 while leading the A-10.
She currently ranks second in the A-10 and 11th in Division I in goals per game (3.88). While being an exceptional scorer, the midfielder has also added 79 draw controls on the year, good for second on the team.
Â
FIONA FEEDS
Senior
Fiona McGovern has a team-high 39 assists and is second in the A-10 in assists per game (2.29). McGovern is one assist away from tying the program single-season best mark of 40 set by Brenna Houghton in 2007. McGovern has 217 career points in 65 games played at SBU. She is just the second Bonnie in program history to reach the two-century mark. The first was Bonnies Hall of Famer Kelly Chevez, who tallied a program-high 240 points from 2002-05.
Â
TRIPLE THREAT
For only the second time in program history and the first time since 2010, the Bonnies have three players with 50 or more points in a season.
Brooke Piper (75),
Fiona McGovern (72), and
Tori Nascimento (64) join
Molly Hastrich (70), Christine Hanley (57), and Danielle Drabin (51) as the only trios with 50 or more points in a season.
Â
GOOD D, GREAT O
The Bonnies have the third-best scoring defense in the Atlantic 10, allowing just over 10.5 goals per game. That mark ranks 34th in D-I.
Brit Colangelo leads the team in groundballs (41) and caused turnovers (30).
Sophomore goalie
Katelyn Hicks has held it down in cage for the Bonnies as well. She has the second best save percentage (.468) and second most saves per game (9.18) among A-10 goalies. She averages the most saves per game among teams in the tournament.
The Bonnies also have one of the best offensive units in the league, scoring 13.59 goals per game. The mark is second to No. 1 seed UMass (17.38).
Â
DRAW DOMINANCE
The Bonnies lead the A-10 and are eighth in Division I in draw control percentage, winning 60.6 percent of draws.
