OPENING DRAW
The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team will face its first road tests of the season this week, traveling to face Binghamton on Wednesday before matching up with Bucknell on Saturday in Pennsylvania.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies look to carry momentum from last week's dominating 12-2 home win over Long Island which saw the team allow two or fewer goals in a single game for the first time since 2013.
Â
Goalie
Judy Mahoney showed out against the Sharks in her first career start, playing all 60 minutes in goal and making nine saves. The sophomore also stonewalled all four of the visitor's free position attempts and was awarded the honor of Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts. She entered the week leading the nation in average goals allowed (3.87) and ranked second in save percentage (70.6 percent).
Â
Senior captain
Brooke Piper helped lead SBU with a hat trick, also pacing the team with four draw controls. Fellow senior
Rylee Gonzalez continued her hot start to the season by adding two goals and an assist, and freshman
Riley Milligan matched those stats for the first multi-goal performance of her career.
Â
Other Bonnies recording points against the Sharks were
Kierstin Hillis (2G),
Megan Schillinger (2A),
Maddie Pieloch (1G),
Arianna West (1A), Sydney Van Tassel (1G) and
Grace Hollenbeck (1G). Hillis' scores were her first while wearing the Brown and White.
Â
On the defensive side, senior captain
Brit Colangelo paced the squad with both five groundballs and three caused turnovers. Freshman
Brooke Owens posted three groundballs and two caused turnovers in what was just her second career game. Junior
Olivia Peeler added support with pairs of groundballs and caused turnovers.
Â
MOVING UP THE LEADERBOARDS
Piper has now overtakenÂ
Fiona McGovern, '25 for the fifth-most career goals in program history (128), also moving into ninth-place in total career points (154) after passing Mikayla Place, '16.
Â
Colangelo is quickly approaching 100 career caused turnovers and has now passed Nicole Motondo, '06 for the seventh-most ground balls in program history (97).
