ST. BONAVENTURE (6-20, 1-8 A-10) vs. GEORGE WASHINGTON (10-17, 4-5 A-10)
Thursday – Saturday, April 2-4
Handler Park at McGraw-Jennings Field
TV: ESPN+ (Thursday and Friday) / Bonnies Online Network+ (Saturday)
FIRST PITCH
St. Bonaventure continues its first homestand of the spring by welcoming George Washington for a three-game Atlantic 10 series beginning Thursday at 3 p.m. Weather permitting, Friday's game is set for a 2 p.m. start with the finale slated for Saturday at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies opened the newly renovated Handler Park at McGraw-Jennings Field with a win on Tuesday vs. Binghamton, using a five-run eighth inning to break a late tie and sail to a 7-3 victory.
Manuel Castro had the go-ahead, two-run double and drove in three runs on the day. Antonio Corderio delivered a two-run homer as well.
Tristan Ciampa earned his second win of the year on the mound.
TEAM LEADERS
Redshirt junior centerfielder
Anthony Fernandez paces the Bonnies with a .356 batting average on the year after having an 18-game streak of reaching base safely snapped last weekend at VCU. Fernandez has started every game this year, something that he,
Chris Hoalcraft and Antonio Cordiero have done so far. Fernandez also leads the club in on-base percentage at .450.
Castro, meanwhile, leads the team in doubles (12), extra-base hits (16) is second in RBIs (19) behind only Cordeiro whose 22 RBIs and four homers are both Bonnies' bests.
IN THE RANKINGS
Fernandez ranks 10th among all qualified Atlantic 10 players in batting average while Castro stands third in the league and 25th nationally in doubles.
On the hill, starter
David James is fifth among all A-10 qualifying pitchers with his 3.12 ERA. James has looked the part of an ace this year, striking out 38 batters over 34.2 innings.
WE'LL TAKE TWO
The Bonnies have racked up the doubles this season, hitting 54 as a team thus far. That total ranks third in the A-10 and is 53rd nationally in per game average at just over two two base-hits per contest.
ABOUT GW
- The Revolutionaries are on the road all week, having lost Tuesday at UMBC, 7-4.
- GW is 4-5 in Atlantic 10 play through three series after taking two of three at home vs. La Salle last weekend. That served as a bounce back after being swept on the road at Saint Joseph's the previous weekend following a series win at Rhode Island to begin A-10 play with wins in each of the first two games of that series before the Rams salvaged a victory in the finale.
- GW currently stands seventh in the A-10 in staff ERA (6.62) and fourth in batting average (.278) while their 5.9 runs per game is eighth in the league.
- Junior Robbie Lavey was named to the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watchlist earlier this week after hitting a team-best .347 to begin the year.
- Junior RHP Andrew Cutler (2-1, 5.45 ERA), sophomore RHP Declan Wywoda (1-2, 5.97) and senior RHP Max Haug (1-3, 5.82) have served as the team's top three starters this year while Colin Lebel (0-1, 2.33 ERA, 4 saves) is GW's top relief option along with junior lefty Gavin Miller (3-0, 2.70).
SERIES HISTORY
The Bonnies and GW did not meet last year. In 2024, GW swept a three-game series at home to extend what is currently a 13-game winning streak in the series dating back to an 8-5 win for the Bonnies at home back on April 27, 2018.
