ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — St. Bonaventure's new outdoor tennis courts will be named for its former coach, Pat Panzarella, on May 13.

The dedication event is scheduled for 4 p.m. on the courts and will be open to the public.

Panzarella, who passed away Oct. 19, 2025, coached the Bonnies men's tennis team for 29 years, from 1965 to 1994, and his teams won better than 50 percent of their matches. He also helped found the women's tennis program and was its coach for 21 years beginning in 1973. The Bona women won 64 percent of their matches under Panzarella.

Combined, he amassed 333 career victories and along the way, guided both programs' transition into the Atlantic 10 Conference. He was inducted into the university's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003.

Panzarella also served as a professor of English at St. Bonaventure for over five decades.

The six-court complex was constructed thanks to a significant gift from Michael and Kristeen Hickey, both from the Class of 1984. Michael Hickey is chair of the university's Board of Trustees. Kristeen Hickey played tennis for the Bonnies during her time at SBU.

Located southeast of the Bonnies softball field on the Marra Athletics Complex, the new location was selected as the university continues to focus on centralizing its athletic facilities in one general location.
