Bowling Green downs Bonnies 9-6

BRADENTON, Fla. - St. Bonaventure fell to Bowling Green Monday night, 9-6, in Bradenton, Florida.

The Bonnies got on the board first, scoring two runs in the top of the first and another run in the top of the second.

The Falcons cut the deficit to two, 3-1, with a run in the bottom of the second, but St. Bonaventure answered with two runs in the top of the third for a 5-1 lead.

Bowling Green countered, scoring a run in the fourth and three in the fifth inning to tie the game 5-5.

The Bonnies regained the lead in the sixth, plating one runner for a 6-5 lead.

Unfortunately, the Falcons touched-up sophomore pitcher Matt Agostonelli for four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Agostonelli, who allowed four runs on four hits in two innings of work, fell to 0-1 on the season.

Senior pitcher Soren Johnson left the game in fifth inning with an undisclosed right knee injury. Johnson allowed two runs on five hits, while striking out seven batters.

The Bonnies finished with 11 hits on the day. Matt Landahl, Dan Bratys and Matt Marduesz each had two hits.

With the loss, the Bonnies fall to 0-2 on the season.

Greg Mentrek was the winning pitcher for Bowling Green, which improved to 6-3.

The Bonnies return to action on Tuesday against Valparaiso at 3 p.m. in Bradenton.
