BRONX, N.Y. -
Fordham defeated St. Bonaventure, 10-7, Sunday afternoon, closing out the three-game series at Jack Coffey Field.
Fordham scored two runs in the first inning and held the lead until the third. In the third, junior catcher Damian Blakeley hit a home run to start a four-run Bona rally. After a single by freshman left fielder Joe Rizzo, freshmen third baseman Matt Marduesz followed with a home run. Senior shortstop Eric Wilson scored later in the inning, after reaching base on a single. Wilson was brought in on a single by freshman first baseman Kiernan Malone.
Fordham scored a run of their own in the third and followed up with a six-run fourth inning. They tacked on another run in the fifth inning and held off the Bonnies late in the game to secure the win.
The Bonnies didn't score again until the seventh. Wilson singled to lead off the seventh and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Down by five, the Bonnies would score a run in both the eighth and ninth innings, but that was not enough.
Taking the loss for St. Bonaventure was senior Matt Landahl, whose record fell to 2-2. In three innings of work, Landahl allowed nine runs on six hits, while striking out two.
The Bonnies overall record fell to 12-12 overall and 6-3 in Atlantic 10 play. Fordham's record improved to 12-19-1 and 5-7 in A-10 play.
The Bonnies are back in action, taking on Bucknell at McGraw-Jennings field on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
