EUGENE, Ore. -
Saturday's game between St. Bonaventure (1-1) and Vermont featured combined 65 shots, 51 turnovers, nine yellow cards and a Pape' Field record 35 goals.
Sophomore Katelyn Faas netted seven of those goals to lead the Brown and White to a 20-15 victory over the Catamounts (1-3).
Six players finished with at least three goals, including four from St. Bonaventure. Sophomore Brenna Houghton scored a career-high four goals and added three assists, while junior Kimberly Ross and freshman Molly Hastrich each had three goals.
The two teams traded goals until a three-goal spurt midway through the first half gave Vermont its largest lead of the game, at 7-5 with 13:08 left in the half.
The Bonnies finished the half by outscoring Vermont 6-2 to take an 11-9 lead at the half. St. Bonaventure ripped off a pair of three-goal spurts of their own wrapped around a Vermont goal.
Goals by Hastrich and Ross to start the second half stretched the Bonaventure lead to four, at 13-9.
Vermont refused to go away and tied things up at 13-13 with a 4-0 run over a three-minute span.
The Bonnies finally put the pesky Catamounts away with a 7-1 scoring run to take a commanding 20-14 lead with 3:34 remaining. During the run, Faas scored her fifth, sixth and seventh goals, and Ross and Hastrich scored twice.
St. Bonaventure outshot Vermont 38-27.
Junior Stephanie Jordan turned in her second-straight two-goal performance, while freshman Lyndsey Wagner had a goal and an assist.
Junior Eboni Preston picked up the win in the cage, making 10 stops.
St. Bonaventure will now head to Fairfax, Va. on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. tilt against George Mason.
