BUFFALO, N.Y. – The women's
swimming and diving team faced off against Duquesne and La Salle
Saturday in a tri-meet at Erie Community College. The Bonnies fell
to Atlantic 10 foes Duquesne 214-108 and to La Salle 197-132.
Senior Allison Smith led the way for the Bonnies. Smith picked
up a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of
1:55.24. In the 500-yard freestyle, Smith clocked in at 5:09.17 and
a second-place finish.
In the 200-yard backstroke, junior Kathryne Valentine sprinted
to a first-place finish with a time of 2:08.84. Sophomore Jamie
Noonan clocked in at 2:10.55, good enough for a third-place finish.
Senior Taylor Merena notched a second-place finish in the
100-yard butterfly, with a time of 1:01.13.
The relay teams also had a big day. The 200-yard freestyle relay
team came in second -place. The team of Lanae Petty, Allison Smith,
Julie Brezinsky and Jamie Noonan touched in with a time of 1:42.36
The 400-yard medley relay team of Kathryne Valentine, Kayla
Cobb, Taylor Merena and Allison Smith picked up a third-place
finish, clocking in at 4:05.33.
Finally, the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Allison Smith,
Natalya Ghostlaw, Kara Small and Jamie Noonan touched in at 3:47.55
and a third-place finish.
In the diving portion of the meet, sophomore Jaelyn Thurner
placed first in 1-meter dive with a score of 210.30. Classmate
Alycia Gossett came in third with a score of 156.98. In the 3-meter
dive, Thurner and Gossett placed first and second, respectively
with score of 204.53 and 165.45.
The team will travel to Cleveland next Saturday for a meet
against Cleveland State, Valparaiso University and Niagara
University. The meet will begin at 1 p.m.
