BUFFALO, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure softball teams' bats never got going as it dropped both games of its doubleheader to long-time rival Canisius on Thursday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex.

The Bonnies dropped the first game of the doubleheader 8-0, while falling 7-0 in the nightcap. The Brown and White were stagnant offensively all day, managing just three hits in both contests combined.

With the pair of defeats, St. Bonaventure's record falls to 8-24 for the season. Canisius meanwhile gets back over the .500 mark, at 20-19 overall, with today's victories.

Freshman Anderson Conte got the start in the first game of the doubleheader and went three and two-third innings allowing six earned runs on eight hits.

Canisius jumped on Conte early, collecting runs in the first and third innings to make the score 2-0. The Golden Griffs then plated five runs in the fourth to blow the game wide open. Freshman Lizzy Gatto stepped up to plate with two outs and the bases loaded and delivered a bases clearing triple into the right-center gap to make the score 7-0. Canisius would score another run in the fifth to close out the game in five innings.

Senior Mallory Aldred was the benefactor of the offensive surge delivered by the Golden Griffs. Aldred went the distance for the win allowing no runs on just two hits, while striking out nine.

In game two, Canisius plated seven runs in the first three innings, scoring four runs in the second inning and three runs in the third off St. Bonaventure starter Erin Nargi. Freshman Katie Lancellotti supplied the big hit in the third, when she hit a bases clearing triple to make the score 7-0. That would be more than enough for Golden Griffs starter Juliette Bowers who pitched a complete game shutout allowing just one hit while striking out seven.

Nargi took the loss for the Brown and White after she allowed seven runs on seven hits, while striking out just one.

The Bonnies only three hits of the day were all singles. Senior Ashley Kotz and sophomore Amber Webb-Fife each collected a single in the first game, while sophomore Sarah Signore slapped a single into left field in the fifth inning for St. Bonaventure's only hit in the second game.

St. Bonaventure will be back in action on Saturday, April 25, when it travels to Washington, D.C. to play a doubleheader against Atlantic 10 rival George Washington. The first game of the series is set to start at 12:00 p.m.
