Women's Soccer Nabs Key Win Over Fordham

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — St. Bonaventure jumped out to a 3-0 lead and withstood a late flurry from Fordham to claim a decisive 4-2 Atlantic 10 conference victory at McGraw-Jennings Field on Sunday.

The win raises the Bonnies record to 8-7-0 overall, 2-3-0 in Atlantic 10 play and marks fifth-year head coach Manoj Khettry's first win over the Rams (5-9-1, 1-3-1).

"It was disappointing that with a three-goal lead we lost our concentration for a few minutes and allowed Fordham to claw back into the game," he said. "I'm really proud of my players, and really happy for them, after such a disspointing loss on Friday (against La Salle), to have them come out and play skillfully and well."

St. Bonaventure scored four goals in a game for the first time since a 5-0 victory over Temple Oct. 24, 2008. Hannah Lapp put the Bonnies on the board in the third minute, the fifth time this season that St. Bonaventure has tallied within the first nine minutes of action, and what looked to be a low-scoring affair turned into a shootout after the Bonnies took a 1-0 lead into the half.

Courtney Bosse assisted on a goal to Anna Cunningham just 3:28 in the final period and went to goal herself four minutes later to give the home side a 3-0 cushion. Over their four year careers together, Bosse and Cunningham have now connected for a goal on 15 separate occasions (11-4).

Forty-two seconds later, Fordham's Danielle Ingram scored from Annie Worden on a cross from the left side. Mariella Romano converted a penalty kick, awarded after a hand ball in the box in the 56th minute, to trim the lead to one, 3-2.

St. Bonaventure's Nicole Rosso put the game out of reach when she finished a low cross, sent in by Hannah Lapp, to cap a five-goal 17:32 span between the teams.

The Bonnies host Xavier and Dayton next Friday and Sunday, respectively.

NOTES: Over their four year careers together, Bosse and Cunningham have now connected for a goal on 15 separate occasions … the Bonnies hold a 6-1 mark in games where Cunningham is on the goal-scoring end of the connection ... the duo last connected Aug. 21 … with the win over Fordham, SBU is now 5-1 at home this season
