BUFFALO, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure women's
swimming and diving team moved up one spot and finished the third
day of the Atlantic 10 Championships at the Flickinger Center in
seventh place with 189 points.
In the first event of the night, sophomore Jamie
Noonan placed ninth in the 400-yard IM consolation final
with a time of 4:29.65. Senior Kara Small placed
12th touching in at 4:36.43.
Noonan knocked a full five seconds off her prelim time, while Small
was over a second better in the consolation final, as the duo
earned a combined 14 points.
The Bonnies looked to the 100-yard butterfly to help move up the
ranks. In the finals, senior Taylor Merena claimed
a silver medal with a time of 56.13 and junior Katie
Valentine swam to an eighth-place time of 57.73. In the
consolation finals sophomore Lanae Petty finished
in ninth place, notching a time of 56.94. Merena's second-place
finish earned the Bonnies 17 points, as the Brown and White claimed
a total of 37 points in the event.
The 200-yard freestyle senior Allison Smith
finished a time of 1:52.41, good for a fourth-place finish and 15
valuable points in the championship finals.
In the 100-yard breaststroke consolation finals, sophomore
Kayla Cobb placed 13th with a time of 1:07.80.
At the end of the day, Fordham holds a sizeable lead on the
women's board with 442 points, followed by Richmond in second
(393). Massachusetts holds third (285) with Duquesne in fourth
(257). La Salle is fifth with 250.5 points, followed by Xavier who
holds a one-point lead over the Brown and White.
The Bonnies will return to the Flickinger Center tomorrow for the
final day of competition with prelims beginning at 10:30 a.m.
followed by the finals at 6:30 p.m.
