BUFFALO, N.Y. - The St.
Bonaventure women's swimming and diving team mirrored last year's
Atlantic 10 Championship performance by finishing in sixth place
with a total of 388.5 points in the last day of competition at the
Flickinger Center on Saturday.
In the 1650-yard freestyle, junior
Natayla Ghostlaw swam a 17:41.70 for a
14th-place finish. In her last A-10 Championships,
senior Kara Small finished in 19th with a time of
18:04.91.
In the 200-yard backstroke finals junior
Katie Valentine touched the wall in 2:04.26 for a
sixth-place finish while sophomore Jamie Noonan
finished in eighth (2:05.00). In the consolation finals junior
Morgan Ribar took 11th place by
swimming a 2:05.64. Combined the three garnered a total of 30
points to help their spot in the standings.
Senior Allison Smith finished
her individual swimming career by finishing sixth in the 100-yard
freestyle with a time of 52.00.
In diving actions, sophomore Jaelyn
Thurner finished in ninth with a score of 184.65.
Classmate Alycia Gossett finished in
12th with a score of 172.25
In the final event of the night, the 400-yard
freestyle relay, Smith, Noonan, senior Lauren Ely,
and sophomore Lanae Petty combined their efforts
to swim a 3:30.86 for sixth place.
At the conclusion of the championship, Fordham
knocked off eight-time defending champion Richmond with 676 points.
Richmond finished in second (596) followed by Massachusetts (428)
in third. Rhode Island was unable to catch up with only 340
points and ended the day in seventh.
