ALFRED, N.Y. – Behind a four-goal
effort from three Bonnies, the St. Bonaventure women's
lacrosse team shut down the visiting Bucknell Bison, 19-6, on a wet
and cold afternoon at Merrill Field.
The Bonnies now even their record at 4-4, entering Atlantic 10
play on a three-game winning streak while Bucknell falls to 1-9 on
the season.
Junior Christine Hanley and sophomores
Danielle Drabin and Daisy Timlin
paced the Bonnies with four goals each. Reigning Atlantic 10 Player
of the Week Molly Hastrich and Kristi
Tamasitis each added two goals of their own.
Bucknell took its first and only lead of the game, jumping on
the board first at 28:28 on a pass from Chelsea Peters to Becca
Devine past senior goalie Tori Waheibi. Waheibi
picks up her third consecutive win after notching three saves
between the posts.
The Bonnies countered with a 6-0 run of their own as Hanley
scored her three of her four goals through the stretch.
Bucknell's Julia Braun hit her first of two goals of the game
on a free position shot to close the run and make it a 6-2 game.
St. Bonaventure did not back down, going on a 6-1 tear from 8:44
in the first until 22:13 in the second frame to lead 12-3 after
freshman Kellyn Savage took a pass from Drabin to
score her third goal of the season.
Bucknell scored two consecutive goals late in the second half,
but the Bonnies never relinquished their lead and scored six
consecutive goals to close the game.
The Brown and White begin their conference schedule on Friday as
they go on a three-day road trip to Philadelphia. La Salle
hosts the Bonnies on Friday at 6:30 p.m. before St. Bonaventure
travels across town to Saint Joseph's to take on the Hawks on
Sunday at noon.
