Bonnies take on Little Three Rival Canisius

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's swimming and diving team return to the pool to take on the Little Three Rival Canisius Friday at 4:00 p.m.

The Bonnies plan to repeat last season's 153-89 defeat of the Golden Griffins.

In last year's meeting, current senior Elias Homerin dominated the field in the long distance events by picking up first-place finishes in the 500-yard freestyle (4:51.94) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:58.90). Freshman teammate Mike Hartwell finished just behind Homerin in both events, earning a time of 4:56.90 in the 500-yard freestyle and a 10:10.87 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

Jimmy Martin (pictured) earned first-place in the 100-yard freestyle where he finished with a time of 47.33. Martin also finished in first-place in the 50-yard freestyle where the Bonnies finished in the top three spots. Martin finished with a time of 21.93, Nathan Destree finished in second-place (22.27) and David Paccapaniccia took third-place (22.78).

In diving action, Mike Murphy earned first-place in the 1-meter dive with a combined score of 287.70. Murphy also took first-place in the 3-meter dive with a score of 310.57.

The Bonnies are coming off a 207-93 loss to Pittsburgh last weekend.

During that meet, junior Jimmy Martin led the Bonaventure men's team with two first place finishes, placing first in both the 100-yard freestyle and 200 free with times of 45.79 and 1:39.82, respectively.

Senior Elias Homerin was the only other Bonaventure men's swimmer to place first in any event. He touched in at 9:41.90 in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing seven seconds clear of his nearest competitor. Homerin also finished in second-place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:43.50.

Following the meet with Canisius, the Brown and White will return to the pool in a week on Nov. 3 to face Duquesne, LaSalle and Xavier in a quad meet at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
