Bonnies attend Pittsburgh Invite

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The St. Bonaventure men's swimming and diving team travels to Pittsburgh, Pa. this weekend to attend the Pitt Invite.

The meet will begin on Friday Nov. 16 and go until Sunday Nov. 18. Preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. followed by finals starting at 6 p.m. each day. 

The Bonnies hope to avenge the 207-93 loss that they had against Pittsburgh earlier this season on Oct. 20. In that meet, junior Jimmy Martin led the team by placing first in the 100-yard freestyle and 200 free, winning the 100 with a time of 45.79, and touching the 200 in 1:39.82.

The Panthers recently fell to Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., 176-124, on Nov. 9.

Also attending the Invite are the men's and women's teams California (Pa.), Fairmont State, Florida Atlantic, Pitt Bradford, West Virginia and West Virginia Wesleyan, along with the women's team rom James Madison.

St. Bonaventure is coming off a loss to Cleveland State, 132-111, in its home opener on Nov. 10.

Senior Mike Murphy led the team winning both the 1- and 3-meter boards. Murphy had a score of 379.73 in the 3-meter board that shattered the current pool record. He also had a score of 332.25 in the 1-meter board.

Jimmy Martin and Vatslav Lets also had a pair of individual first-place finishes for the team. Martin won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.30, and touched in at 1:55.11 in the 200-yard IM. Lets took his first gold in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.26. He also placed first in the 500-yard free with a time of 4:39.94. 

The Bonnies return to the pool on Nov. 30 through Dec. 4 for the Akron Invite in Akron, Ohio.
