AKRON, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure men's swimming team returned to the pool Saturday Dec. 1 to attend the Zippy Invitational hosted by The University of Akron at Ocasek Natatorium.
Jimmy Martin led the team with a gold finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:40.06.
Teammate Vatslav Lets touched in just behind at 1:41.34 and a fourth-place finish in the 200 free.
Michael Pilyugin had a silver-place finish in the 100-yard back with a time of 50.50.
Also with a silver place finish was a team of Pilyugin, Lets, Elias Homerin and Martin with a time 6:52.33.
Freshman Gregg Byrne had a fourth-place finish in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:07.45.
A fifth-place was gained by Matthew Schutt in the 100-yard breast with a time of 57.99.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Matthew Rochna touched in at 50.75 and a fifth-place finish. Nathan Destree touched in just behind with a ninth-place finish and a time of 49.50.
John Mackiewicz came in at 4:16.72 in the 400 IM, which was good for an eleventh-place finish.
David Erickson came in at 1:45.92 in the 200 free, good for a 10th place finish.
In relay action, in the 200-yard medley relay a team of Michael Pilyugin, Matthew Schutt, David Paccapaniccia and Jimmy Martin came in at 1:34.20, good for a fifth-place finish.
After day two of the Invite the Bonnies are still in fourth-place with a score of 809. The return to the pool Sunday Dec. 2 with prelims at 9 a.m. and finals at 4 p.m.
