Softball Travels to Stetson for Hatter Classic

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure softball team travels to DeLand, Fla. this weekend to participate in the Hatter Classic hosted by Stetson University.

On Friday, Feb. 24, the Bonnies will face Mount St. Mary's at 11 a.m. followed by a game against Bethune-Cookman at 1:30 p.m. The Brown and White will have another double header on Saturday, Feb. 25, playing a second game against Bethune-Cookman at 11 a.m. and then Stetson at 4 p.m. At 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26, the team will face one of the three teams a consolation or championship game.

The Bonnies enter the Hatter Classic with a 1-3 record following the Upstate Classic at South Carolina Upstate. Junior Hali Enderby recorded a .333 batting average with two doubles, a triple and four RBI in the event, earning All-Tournament Team honors. Senior Chloe Mizianty is the team's leading returning player after hitting .303 with 22 RBI last season.

Mount St. Mary's, members of the Northeast Conference, will open their season against the Bonnies at the Stetson Classic. The Mountaineers return 15 upperclassmen following a 16-30 record last season.

Bethune-Cookman comes to the Hatter Classic with a 1-7 record. Sophomore Kelsey Rodney leads the team with six RBI. Members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, the Wildcats lost to Stetson in both games of a doubleheader on Feb. 18 8-3 and 11-3 and 4-0 on Feb. 19 in DeLand, Fla during the Dot Richardson National Collegiate Invitational. Following their game Friday against the Bonnies, the Wildcats will face Stetson again at 6:30 p.m. The team will take on Mount St. Mary's at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

A part of the Atlantic Sun Conference, Stetson is 6-0 this season, outscoring teams 46-9. Freshman Courtney Brandt leads the Hatters with eight RBI along with eight hits, six runs scored and a .421 batting average. Senior Carolyn Boyd and Freshman Allison Sutherlin have a team-best .500 batting average. The Hatters will face Mount St. Mary's at 4 p.m. on Friday and at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 25 and Bethune-Cookman at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Following the Hatter Classic, the Bonnies will compete in the North Florida Invite March 2-4 in Jacksonville, Fla. hosted by the University of North Florida.
