Softball Splits Doubleheader With Canisius

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure softball team (15-17) picked up a 6-3 win over Canisius (11-26) before falling 8-0 in the finale of a doubleheader at McGraw-Jennings Field on Tuesday.

Lindsay Stowell and Ashley Snider were each 2-for-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored to help the Bonnies overcome two- and one-run deficits in the first and fifth innings to claim the 6-3 win to start things off.

Christine Watson's bases-loaded single in the bottom of the first answered a two-run frame from the Golden Griffins in the top half, tying the game at 2-all after one.

Canisius, who managed just one earned run off of Bona hurler Jen Sansano, took the lead again in the fifth on a one-out sacrifice fly, but the Bonnies' bats came alive in heir half to take control for good.

Three straight batters reached safely, including an RBI two-bagger from Snider, as SBU talled two hits and took advantage of an error and a passed ball to plate three runs and claim a 5-3 lead.

Sansano kept the ball in the infield and worked out of a two-on, one out jam before shutting the door in the seventh after SBU added an insurance tally.

In the nightcap, Canisius' Jen Cansaul tossed a complete-game four-hit shutout to power the victory.

The Bonnies resume Atlantic 10 Conference play this weekend with two games each at Fordham and La Salle.
