ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team opens its 2012 home schedule with weekend games against Pittsburgh and Big 4 rival University at Buffalo at McGraw-Jennings Field.
The Panthers (2-1) visit the Bonnies at 5 p.m. Friday before the Bulls (1-1) come to town for a 1 p.m. start on Sunday.
St. Bonaventure (0-2) begins the weekend aiming to bounce back from a challenging season-opening road trip to Wisconsin. The Bonnies suffered a pair of disappointing 4-0 setbacks to No. 16/14 Marquette and Wisconsin-Milwaukee, talented teams that are perennial NCAA Tournament participants.
The Bonnies haven't met Pitt since 2009, when the Big East Panthers claimed a 4-0 victory. Pitt has already played three contests this season – collecting a pair of 2-1 victories over Eastern Michigan and Robert Morris sandwiched around a 1-0 loss at Michigan.
SBU's history with Buffalo is fresher, as the Bonnies battled to a 3-2 road victory over the Bulls last September. Alicia Elwell, now a sophomore, connected on the game-winning goal and also had an assist in the win. Alyssa Lapp and Taylor Broderick also netted goals for the Bonnies, who have won three of their last four games against UB dating back to the 2008 season.
The Bulls, who were 12-5-4 in 2011, opened this season with a 2-1 home loss to Colgate before bouncing back with a 2-0 victory over rival Canisius on Thursday night.
Following the contests this weekend, Bonaventure remains at home to conclude its four-game homestand with a pair of outings next weekend against Syracuse and Bucknell.
