VESTAL, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team (0-6-1) will take on the Binghamton Bearcats (5-1) Friday night at 7 looking to earn its first win of the season after dropping its third straight decision last week at Hofstra.
Rest will be on the Bonnies side as they are coming off a seven-day break since that setback to the Pride. Binghamton, however, will play Bonaventure after a single day of rest as the Bearcats are coming off a 2-1 win Wednesday night against Cornell.
In fact, this contest will be the middle match of a three-match-in-five-day stretch for Binghamton, which faces Fairleigh Dickinson Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile, this contest will represent the middle match of a three-match-in-15-day stretch for St. Bonaventure.
Bonaventure will look to build off its second-half performance at Hofstra last Friday evening as SBU, despite being outshot, kept high-quality chances away from the Pride and sustained possession.
Despite not lighting up the scoreboard with goals, the Brown and White has generated plenty of scoring chances this year as they are 7th in the 16-team A-10 with 24 corner kicks. The Bonnies will look to convert those opportunities against the Bearcats – and do so early – as SBU has not led in a game yet this season.
However, with a Binghamton offense averaging as many goals per game (2.0) as St. Bonaventure has scored in total this year, the Bonnies will have their hands full trying to silence the Bearcat attack. With five goals and an assist of her own, Sarah Furminger is off to torrid start as the senior has scored in each of her five appearances this year.
Binghamton, off to its best start as a Division-I program, has allowed an America East Conference low five goals, and three of those came in a 3-0 setback to Atlantic 10 Conference member Saint Joseph's.
Following the meeting with Binghamton, the Bonnies play host to Little Three rival Niagara on Friday, Sept. 21, at 5 p.m.
