Bonnies take on Niagara and honor Pascarella



ST BONAVENTURE, NY – The St. Bonaventure women's swimming and diving team returns to the pool Friday Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. with diving starting at 5:00 p.m. to host Niagara University for their final home meet of the season in the Reilly Center Pool. This will be the final home meet of the season for the seniors; more information about the seniors will be at the end of this release.

St. Bonaventure is coming off of a 145.5-96.5 win over the Binghamton Bearcats on Saturday, Jan. 19, in the Reilly Center Pool.

In last week's meet, Jeanette Dietrich and Lauren Caldwell led the team, both having two individual first-place finishes for the night and both participated in gold medal relays.

Dietrich finished with a time of 1:56.49 in the 200-yard freestyle and touched in at 53.94 in the 100 free to gain her first-place finishes. She was also a part of the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Sierra Wilkinson, Taylor Anderson and Rachel Bull that took gold with a time of 3:40.97.  Caldwell had a time of 2:12.07 in the 200 IM and touched in at 2:09.89 in the 200-yard butterfly to receive her first-place finishes. In the 400-yard medley relay she teamed up with Adelyn Graf, McKenzie Courtney and Anderson to take the gold medal with a time of 4:01.03.
Also with first-place finishes were Bull, Erin Cervone and Graf. Bull took first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:14.39 for her first-place finish. Cervone took gold in the 1000 free and touched in at 10:41.64. Graf had a first-place finish in the 200 back (2:09.46) and also took second-place in the 200 IM (2:14.49).

The Niagara Eagles recently fell to Canisius on Jan. 19 with a score of 96-147. 

The Bonnies return to the pool on Feb 2 when they travel to Buffalo, N.Y. for the last regular meet of the season to take on the University at Buffalo.

Prior to Friday's 6 p.m. start to the swimming portion of the meet, St. Bonaventure will honor its one senior – Erica Pascarella.

As a freshman, the Bradford, Pa. native achieved her best times of the year at the Atlantic 10 Championships in the 50 free (24.03), 100 free (53.7) and 200 free (1:57.03). As a sophomore she finished 47th in the 50-yard freestyle at the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championships, and was part of a 200-yard freestyle medley relay team that finished eighth in the A-10s. Also at Atlantic 10's she finished 26th in the 200-yard freestyle and took 33rd in the 100-yard freestyle. As a junior, Pascarella swam her best time in the 50-yard (25.55), 100-yard(54.94), and 200-yard (1:57.98) freestyle during the 2012 Atlantic 10 Championships, and showcased her best time of the season in the 500-yard freestyle, touching in at 5:30.61, at the Akron Invite. As a senior, at the Western New York Invite, Pascarella finished in 22nd place in the 50 free and also finished in 31st place in the 100-yard freestyle. She was part of an 800-yard freestyle relay team that took 11th place at the Akron Invite.
