ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team (1-5-1) fell to the Hofstra Pride (5-3) in a gritty game that resulted in a 1-0 loss at McGraw-Jennings Field.

The lone goal of the game come in the 36th minute when senior Kerry Cummings headed one past the Bonnies' goalie after a corner kick taken by Ruby Staplehurst.

The second half was a 45-minute long back-and-forth battle between these two physical teams. No goals were scored, but there was plenty of action.

Hofstra controlled the tempo for most of the game, out shooting the Bonnies 13-4. They also had 11 corner kicks to the  Brown and White four. 

Hofstra's strong offensive attack was matched by SBU's stellar defense. Aside from the one goal off a header, the Bonnies turned away every offensive attack by the Pride. 

The great defense was epitomized by the Bonnies' phenomenal goalkeeping. Megan Junker started the game between the pipes for the Brown and White and had five saves on six shots on goal. Sophomore Christina Sarokon tapped in for Junker for the second half. Sarokon added three saves of her own, including an emphatic diving save late in the game to keep the Bonnies in it.

While the defense played very well, the offense had trouble generating any sort of scoring opportunity, salvaging one shot on goal all game by Caitlin MacConnell.

The Hofstra Pride captured their fourth straight win in this afternoon's game.

The Bonnies will welcome Massachusets-Lowell on Friday, Sept. 20 for their next game. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at McGraw-Jennings Field.
