Brittany Charles scored on a direct kick 2:30 into overtime to give St. Bonaventure a 1-0 win over Duquesne Saturday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Fields Complex.

Duquesne's Dayna Fenech was whistled for a foul which led to the direct kick. Charles sent a hard shot just inside the right goalpost past Dukes keeper Devon Tabata for the game-winner.

Charles' third goal of the season gave the Bonnies their first Atlantic 10 win this year.

Duquesne controlled play for most of the second half, out-shooting the Bonnies 10-5 in the frame, but the Bonnies held off the Dukes behind strong defense and seven saves by junior goalkeeper Christina Sarokon.

Charles had a chance to end the game in the final 10 seconds of regulation, but her shot from close range was denied by Tabata.

Inside The Stats / Game Notes:

  • Charles' goal ended a scoreless drought for the Bonnies that stretched nearly four games – they had been shut out in three losses prior to Saturday.
  • Sarokon and the Bonnies survived a very close call with 21 minutes remaining in the second half. Sarokon came out to her right to make a save but the rebound caromed off several players to the front of the net, where Bona defenders Jennifer Morris and Sydney Cassagnol dove to block a shot by Duquesne's Linnea Faccenda.
  • Sarokon made seven of her 10 saves in the second half, highlighted by a diving stop to her right to stop Lauren Yobbi in the 56th minute.
  • Shots for the day were 16-9 favor Duquesne.
  • The Bonnies are now 3-2 at home this season.
  • The shutout was the fifth this year for Sarokon and the Bonnies.

Next Up: The Bonnies will play their final non-conference game of the year on Monday evening (Oct. 13) when they host Cornell at 6 p.m.
