CHARLESTON, S.C. – The St. Bonaventure softball team dropped both of its contests today on day one the team's season-opening tournament being played at the Charleston Southern Tournament.

Game One:

In the Bonnies opening game, the Jacksonville State Gamecocks gave SBU all they could handle and ran away with a 12-0 victory. Jacksonville State, who was already playing in its sixth game of the season, converted on two Bonnies' errors and scored four early runs in the first inning and added two more in the second inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead. The Gamecocks were held without a hit in the third inning, but would tally four more runs off five hits in the fourth inning to build their lead to 10 runs.

Sophomore Katie Sinclair would single in the fourth inning and earn the Bonnies first hit of the game. Jacksonville State once again got out of the inning and went back to work in the top of the fifth as back-to-back homeruns would boost their lead up to 12.

In the bottom of the fifth, senior first baseman Christine Watson would hit a double down the line to get some base runner for the Brown and White. After consecutive strikeouts for St. Bonaventure, sophomore Emily McDonough would lay down a bunt and get to first base and advance Watson to third base. The Bonnies would be unable to score in the run however, and Jacksonville State would earn its fourth victory of the season and drop the Bonnies to 0-1.

Bonnies junior pitcher Julia Pratt would pick up the loss today on the mound in game one vs. Jacksonville State in three innings pitched. SophomoreAlexis Sloat came in and pitched two innings for the Brown and White, earning the team's first strikeout of the season against Taylor Sloan of the Gamecocks in the fifth inning.

Game Two:

St. Bonaventure would meet host Charleston Southern Buccaneers in game two later in the afternoon. The Buccaneers entered today's matchup undefeated with a 4-0-1 record and would shut the Bonnies out in this one by a score of 6-0 to cruise to its fifth victory of the season. Charleston Southern would pick up two runs off three hits in the first inning.

There would be no more runs scored until the bottom of the fourth inning as the Buccaneers added four more runs which would prove to be all the scoring the game would see.

After registering three errors in game one, the Bonnies played a relatively clean second game and held the Buccaneers to just eight hits.

SBU recorded four hits and left a total of five runners on base in this afternoons contest against CSU.

Emily McDonough would register her second hit in as many games off a single in the top of the third.
