The Short Story:
The St. Bonaventure baseball team fell behind early on Friday as the Saint Joseph's Hawks scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back to clinch the 16-3 victory. The Bonnies attempted an early comeback in the third when Joel Rosencrance drove in two-runs with his second homerun of the season. After the Hawks tacked on another run in the bottom of the third, St. Bonaventure earned one of its own by a lead off homerun from Brian Weightman to left-field. At the beginning of the bottom of the fourth inning, St. Bonaventure trailed 5-3, but quickly changed as SJU posted a four-run inning in the fourth. Saint Joseph's went on to score seven runs in the final five innings.

How It Happened:

  • The Hawks led off the bottom of the first with back-to-back hits, including a leadoff double to left field. After runners advanced to second and third base, Forgey flied out to right field that allowed Heuth to score.
  • With runners on the corners with only one out in the first, Cunningham homered down the left-field line.
  • After a scoreless second inning, St. Bonaventure finally pushed across a run in the third from a two-run homerun to left field from Joel Rosencrance.
  • The Bonnies and the Hawks went on to trade runs in the bottom of the third and the top of the fourth. Both runs coming from single homeruns.
  • Saint Joseph's pulled away in the five innings as they totaled 11 runs. Among the 11 runs that the Hawks scored in final six innings was a single homerun to right field that drove in two. SJU also combined for nine hits, including seven singles, a double and a homerun.

Inside The Box Score:

  • Starting pitcher Asa Johnson faced 28 batters in five innings of work as he recorded three strikeouts and allowed eight hits. In the five innings, Johnson threw a total of 115 pitches.
  • Joel Rosencrance tallied his fifth three-hit game of the season. Among those three hits were two singles and a two-run homerun.
  • The Bonnies went on to leave nine runners on base as Saint Joe's left only five on the bags.
  • Brian Weightman recorded his first homerun today in his four-year collegiate career.
