Vestal, N.Y. ― The St. Bonaventure softball team (3-20) couldn't complete a comeback in the first game and surrendered a lead in the second contest of a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon against the Binghamton Bearcats (9-10), losing in each game by scores of 4-2 and 6-5, respectively at Bearcats Softball Complex.

Binghamton opened the scoring in the first game in the bottom of the second inning after third baseman Griffin McIver reached home on a sacrifice fly to right field by shortstop Caytlin Friis.

In the bottom of the fifth, Crysti Eichner homered to center field and second baseman Jessica Bump doubled, driving home left fielder Bridget Hunt.

The Bearcats tacked on a fourth run in the bottom of the sixth when first baseman Lisa Cadogan homered to left center field.

Despite a two-run home run by left fielder Emily Belfield that brought home center fielder Ashley Snider, a St. Bonaventure couldn't finish a top of the seventh rally.

Shortstop Emily McDonough recorded three hits in the contest for the Brown and White. Six different players recorded hits for Binghamton.

St. Bonaventure starting pitcher Kristen Hickling recorded three strikeouts and allowed two walks, four earned runs and six hits in six innings on the mound. Binghamton starter Demi Laney struckout three batters while allowing two earned runs and seven hits over seven innings.

In the second game, the Bonnies scored the first four runs of the contest. In the top of the first, second baseman Desiree Gonzalez reached first on a fielder's choice that allowed right fielder Kelli Rohan to score. Later in the inning, McDonough scored on a Snider groundout to second.

In the top of the third, Gonzalez and McDonough scored a single by first baseman Katie Sinclair. The Bearcats responded in the bottom of the third with a Friis homerun, Hunt scoring on an error by St. Bonaventure third baseman Grace Rooney and Bump reaching home on a fly out to left field by catcher Taylor Chaffee.

Outfielder Lindsay Stowell gave the Bonnies a 5-3 lead in the top of the fourth when she scored following Gonzalez being called out at second after she singled. Binghamton tied the game in the bottom of the fourth after a Bump double drove in Hunt and after Bump reached home on an error by Rooney.

The Bearcats claimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a Friis home run to left field.

Gonzalez recorded two hits in the game for the Brown and White. Four Binghamton players, center fielder Gabby Bracchi, Bump, Chaffee and Friis, had multi-hit performances for the Bearcats. The Bonnies left five runners on base in the game.

St. Bonaventure starting pitcher Carly Bilchak recorded three strikeouts and allowed a walk, six runs (three earned) and 10 hits in six innings of work. Binghamton starter Annika Wiesinger struckout two batters and allowed a walk, five earned runs and seven hits over seven innings.

The Bonnies are scheduled to open their home slate of the 2014 season Saturday (April 5) when they host Saint Louis (16-13, 3-1 A-10) in a doubleheader at McGraw-Jennings Field beginning at noon.
