The Short Story:
On a chilly spring day the St. Bonaventure Bonnies suffered defeat to the Binghamton Bearcats by a score of 7-2 at Fred Handler Park in St. Bonaventure, N.Y. The Bearcats leaped out to an early 4-0 lead before the Bonnies had a chance to bat. The Brown and White got a run back in the bottom of the second when he homered to left field. Despite the homerun, St. Bonaventure never gained momentum to mount a comeback. Binghamton tacked on three more runs in the seventh to solidify its five-run victory. Drew Teller (2-3) took the loss while Casey Wenzel (2-2) was the winner. Wenzel posted four strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched.

How It Happened:

  • Binghamton jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning. Left Fielder Jake Thomas had a two-run double to highlight the inning.
  • St. Bonaventure attempted to chip away at the lead in the bottom of the second after Dylan Dunn connected on a pitched and drilled it to left field that would hit the top of the fence and bounce over for a solo homerun.
  • After two innings with no action, SBU was able to push across another run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Bonnies were able to string together three straight singles, which allowed Thad Johnson to drive in Bradley Gresock from second with a single to centerfield.
  • Fordham got all the insurance it needed with a three-run homerun in the top of the seventh from Shaun McGraw with two outs on the board.
  • The Bonnies looked for a late comeback in the ninth but the bid was ended by a game-ending 6-4-3 double play.
