The Short Story:
The St. Bonaventure baseball team was plagued with costly errors early on as they fell to the Rhode Island Rams by a score of 3-2 in 10 innings. The Brown and White suffered two errors in the first two at-bats of the game, which eventually allowed a runner to score.

Once the Bonnies got out of the first inning, the ballgame turned into a pitcher's duel as each starting pitcher lasted into the later innings. Rhode Island's starting pitcher, Lou Disatsio, completed 7.1 innings pitched with six strikeouts and only five hits, while Bonaventure's starter, Connor Grey pitched nine innings with seven strikeouts and only three hits and no earned runs.

St. Bonaventure was able to tie up the ballgame in the bottom of the eighth, but squandered two runs in the top of the 10th. The Bonnies attempted a comeback, when they scored a run in the bottom of the 10th, but the game ended when Tyler Bell was caught trying to steal second.

SBU flashed leather on the field today. Bret Heath would make a diving catch in right center for an out, while Bradley Gresock snagged a line drive to third. Other Bonnies to make speculator defensive plays were Tommy Styn and Randy Delanoy as they both had to field the ball and throw out the runner at first.

Ben Wessel (2-2) earned the win for the Rams, while Steven Klimek (1-4) suffered the loss. In only one inning of work, Klimek gave up two hits that resulted in two runs.

How It Happened:

  • The game began shaky for the Brown and White as they suffered two errors in the first two at-bats, which allowed Tim Caputo to score from third from a grounder to the first baseman. The Rams had a run on the board before they registered a hit.
  • The ballgame remained quiet until the bottom of the eighth, when Dylan Dunn reached on a fielder's choice and that pushed Randy Delanoy home from third. The Bonnies and Rams headed into extras with the score tied at one apiece.
  • The Rhode Island Rams' bats awoke when SBU made a pitching change as Shane O'Connell laid down a squeeze sac-bunt to score Jonathan Nazarko.
  • Mike Corin added an insurance run for the Rams as he singled to right field to score Caputo. After the top of the 10th inning, Rhode Island led 3-1.
  • St. Bonaventure's center-fielder, Tyler Bell, reached on a fielder's choice that scored Thad Johnson. Tyler Bell attempted to steal second during the next at-bat, but was thrown out to end the game.

Inside The Box Score:

  • Starting Pitcher, Connor Grey, posted a no-decision after he threw nine innings and only allowed three hits and no earned runs with seven strikeouts. His ERA is now 4.13, second best on the squad for starters. Grey leads the team with 42 strikeouts.
  • Only Joel Rosencrance and Dylan Dunn posted more than one hit on the day. Among those hits was a double from Rosencrance that was hit over the head of the left fielder.

On Deck:
The Bonnies look win their second-straight series as they take on the Rhode Island Rams at 12 p.m. at Fred Handler Park on Sunday, May 4.
