The Short Story:
Danielle Vis and Brittany Charles scored to power St. Bonaventure (2-2) over Canisius on Sunday afternoon. Goalkeeper Christina Sarokon and the defense held the Griffs in check as the Bonnies recorded their second shutout of the young season.

Junior midfielder Abby Maiello set up Vis' goal in the 13th minute, sending a crossing pass to her right. Vis took the ball and quickly sent a shot to the upper right corner of the net past Canisius keeper Brigid St. Leger.

Charles, a senior midfielder who was a main reason the Bonnies controlled play the majority of the afternoon, scored on a free kick in the 59th minute. During a driving rain, she lofted a shot from about 22 yards over the heads of three Griff defenders and past the outstretched hand of St. Leger, just under the crossbar.

It was the first win for the Bonnies on McGraw-Jennings Field since a $2 million renovation was completed over the summer. It also was a bounce-back game after a 3-1 home loss to Niagara on Wednesday.

  • Five Bonnies' freshmen came on as substitutes. Sally Cairns and Brittany Tubiolo saw their first action of the year.
