The St. Bonaventure men's swimming and diving team cruised to a 135-107 win over little 3 rival Canisius Saturday afternoon at the Reilly Center pool.
St. Bonaventure got off to a fast start in the first event of the day placing first and second in thh 400-yd medley relay. The team of Michael Pilyugin, Matthew Schutt, Logan Hellwig and Matthew Goettler placed first with a winning time of 3:30.07.
St. Bonaventure continued to swim well in the 1000-yd freestyle. Senior Gregg Byrne finished in first place with a winning time of 10:40.71.
The Bonnies continued to dominate the leaderboard in the 200-yd freestyle. In his first year with the Bonnies, sophomore Jordan Powers finished in first place with a final time of 1:47.01.
In the 50-yd freestyle, the Bonnies finished in the first, third and fourth places to rack up valuable points. Logan Hellwig finished fourth (22.13), Robert Marshal finished third (22.01), and Matt Taccard finished in first place with a winning time of 21.75.
The Bonnies closed out the afternoon with wins in the 200-yd fly, 100-free and 500-yd free. In the 200-yd fly, Eddie Donovan took home the top spot with a final time of 1:56.40. In the 100-yd free, Michael Pilyugin won his second event of the day with a winning time of 47.46. In the 500-yd free, Ben Galisnksi finished first with a time of 4:52.63.
Earlier in the diving portion of the meet, senior Alex Marra won the 3 meter diving event with a total dive score of 299.48. Marra also finished second in the 1 meter diving event with a final dive total of 275.85.
Next Up:
The Bonnies will participate in the University of Pittsburgh Invitational. The meet will run Nov. 20-22, and will feature a preliminary and final format. The morning sessions will begin at 10:00 A.M.
