The Short Story:
The Saint Joseph's Hawks cruised past the St. Bonaventure baseball team on Friday, May 8 in game one of the three-game series, by a score of 14-3.

Runs were far and few between for the Bonnies, but they came quick for the Hawks as they jumped out to a commanding four-run lead after the top of the first. The Hawks went on to add eight more runs over the next three innings, while St. Bonaventure was only able to tally two.

The game slowed down after the fourth inning, as the Hawks recorded two in the seventh and the Bonnies countered with one in the bottom of the eighth.

Senior catcher Dylan Dunn was the lone bright spot for the Bonnies at the plate. Dunn went 3-4 with two RBIs and one run scored.

Receiving the loss for the Brown and White was Connor Grey, who drops to 3-5 on the year. Pat Vanderslice of Saint Joseph's brought his record back to even with the victory.

How It Happened:

  • The Hawks soared out to a four-run lead in the top of the first off the bats of John Brue and Cal Jadacki, who both had doubles that resulted in three runs. The other run was tallied by Stefan Kancylarz on a single up the middle.
  • Dylan Dunn brought the Bonnies back within three of the Hawks in the bottom of the second with a double to left center that scored Tyler Bell.
  • Saint Joseph's took back their four run lead and then more with a Lansing Veeder double down the left field line that scored two.
  • The doubles kept on coming for the Hawks as the registered three more in the top of the fourth that accounted for five runs. Another run was scored in the inning on a throwing error on the shortstop.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, St. Bonaventure's Randy Delanoy singled to center field that scored Dunn.
  • Ryan Pater of SJU singled to right center with the bases loaded that scored two runs in the top of the seventh.
  • Dunn finished his day off with a single to third base that scored Ted Dilts.
