The Short Story: Wednesday evening, the Bonnies and Griffs battled for over 100 minutes of soccer. However, that proved to not be enough as the game ended in a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods.Â
The two teams were locked in a 0-0 game after the first 45 minutes of play. Brittany Krouse broke the scoreless tie early in the second half with her fourth goal of the season at 46:53 to give the Griffs a 1-0 advantage.Â
The game would remain 1-0 in favor of Canisus until, with just 7:03 left in regulation time, Alex Meador threaded a pass behind the defense. Lauren Hill took the pass and chipped the ball into the top right corner of the net for the equalizer.Â
From that point on, the two teams traded scoring chances without anyone taking advantage.Â
Although St. Bonaventure out shot Canisius 21-11, the Griffs put nine shots on goal to St Bonaventure's 5.Â
Coaches Corner:
"I think the girls started the game with the same intensity and energy that we finished Friday with," said Bonnies coach Steve Brdarski. "We worked hard this week and for 45 minutes I thought we saw our best half of soccer. The hard part is we did not have a goal to show for it."
"The resilience by the team to not give up and tie the game was what we wanted to see. We scored a great team goal and glad our hard work was rewarded. Bottom line ... we will find a way to work harder and get better. Very lucky to be coming home for the next four games."
