CLEARWATER, Fla. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fell to Ball State, 8-1, in its final game of the USF Under Armour Invite Sunday morning.

Ball State got on the board in the first inning with an RBI double to take a 1-0 lead.

BSU later looked like it would extend its lead in the third inning. With a runner on second and two outs, Emma Borysevicz make an out-stretched catch on a line drive to her right in the hole between shortstop and third base to rob Ball State of a base hit and save a run.

The Bonnies capitalized, tying the game in the fourth. Morgan Phillips and Hailey Blencowe both singled for the Bonnies, and Emma Borysevicz later loaded the bases as she got the best of a 10-pitch at-bat, reaching on an error. Kiera Lorenzo delivered the big hit with a single through the left side, brining home Nicole Antonacci.

But the tie would be short lived as Ball State regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run homer.

BSU later opened up the game with five runs in the sixth.

Kristen Hickling earned the start for the Bonnies in the circle. The senior struck out five over her 5.1 innings of work. Two of her five strikeouts came as part of a 1-2-3 second inning.

Sam Wood came on in relief for St. Bonaventure for her third career appearance and struck out one.

Lorenzo put together her second straight multi-hit performance to earn two of the four Bona hits. Blencowe and Phillips made up the other two with a hit apiece.

Up next, the Bonnies will stay in Florida and take on South Dakota State in a doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitches are set to for 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
