Bonnies Swept in Doubleheader at Niagara

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LEWISTON, N.Y. – After fighting through poor weather conditions that have altered scheduling for more than a week, the St. Bonaventure baseball team was finally able to get back on the field Tuesday at Niagara.

Unfortunately for the Bonnies, host Niagara was in control for most of the day, sweeping a Little Three doubleheader by scores of 9-3 and 10-1.

GAME 1 – Niagara 9, St. Bonaventure 3 |

The Bonnies scored first, but Niagara responded with runs in each of their first four at-bats to take complete control.

Sloppiness from Niagara in the first inning allowed the Bonnies to push a run across thanks to two passed balls, a hit batter and a wild pitch. Bona left two runners on base, though, as it was unable to make the Purple Eagles pay any further for the miscues.

Niagara (11-14) answered back with two runs in the first, another run in the second and five in the third to push ahead.

St. Bona finally got two runs in during the seventh on a two-run double off the bat of Jeff Palczewski scoring both Jake Miknis and Alexander Ferlenda.

Palczewski had two hits to lead SBU.

Michael Krauza and Nate Grant both had scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

GAME 2 – Niagara 10, St. Bonaventure 1 |

Niagara did not lose any momentum in the nightcap.

The hosts put up a four-spot in the first innings and registered four more runs in the fifth.

Bona got on the board when Miknis worked a bases loaded walk in the sixth.

Sam Fuller, Ryan MacCarrick and Tyler Kelder each had a hit apiece for the Bonnies.

James Wetter and Donovan Moffat both had scoreless frames of relief.

The Bonnies are back in action by hosting VCU in Atlantic 10 play at Fred Handler Park Friday through Sunday. Friday's game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
