ALFRED, N.Y. – A number of personal records were set as the St. Bonaventure men's track team took advantage of tremendous conditions Monday afternoon at the Alfred Invitational.
The team pushed its PR total into double digits as the Bonnies finished sixth overall with 46 team points in the event.
A pair of Bonnies claimed top-four finishes in the 800 meters.
Ryan Chmiel led the way by sneaking past his previous PR, clocking in at 2:05.22 to take second place in the race. Teammate Kyle Haller was just behind with a PR of his own, taking fourth at 2:08.48. Mark Vaccaro placed sixth, also taking his personal best time of 2:13.45, surpassing his previous best by over three seconds.
Chmiel also had a strong showing in the 4x800 relay. He anchored the relay and turned in an impressive run, moving the Bonnies into a second place finish along with teammates Matthew Bacher, Kyle Haller and William Delaney with a time of 8:34.07.
In the 3000 meters, George Laraia clocked in with a personal best time and third overall at 9:49.46. His time was nearly two full seconds better than his previous best run in the event. Teammate Jacob Osswald was just behind in fourth, also with a PR time of 9:52.37.
The 3000 continued to be a standout event for the Bonnies as Ryan Signorino easily eclipsed his previous PR as well with a fifth place finish at 10:07.10. The event continued to be a home for PRs as Isaiah Callahan and Christian Gravius followed suit.
Alfred State won overall with 202 team points while Alfred (169.50), Buffalo State (89.50), Canisius (83) and Daemen (47) completed the top five.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday at the University at Buffalo.
