Box Score FAIRFAX, Va. – Francesco Caorsi's golden goal in double overtime lifted the St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over George Mason on the road Wednesday evening.
The game-winner came after a Bonnies free kick was partially cleared away and played back to Joshua Pulla who back heel passed to Callum Beattie on the left side of the field. Beattie swung in a low ball where Caorsi soared in against a Mason defender trying to clear for the diving header, sending the visitors home victorious.
The Patriots opened the scoring Wednesday in the 35th minute when Louis Lehr slotted home a goal, giving George Mason a 1-0 advantage.
Fredrik Hansen pulled the Bonnies level when he got the ball on the left side of the field in the 67th minute and made his way through two Patriots defenders and fired a rocket to the lower left corner of the net for his first goal of the season. C.J. Takatch was credited with the assist, registering the first point of his career.
The Bonnies were awarded a free kick just outside the box with 11 seconds remaining in regulation but nothing would come of it, sending the contest to overtime.
Neither team was able to muster a shot in the first overtime period Wednesday.
Hansen finished with two shots on the night while Cuneyt Vardar also registered a pair of shots. In net, Justyn Sandhu made his first start since Sept. 15 and five saves in the contest for the Bonnies.
The Bonnies return home Saturday, Oct. 9 to host Saint Joseph's at the Marra Athletics Complex.
