ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – It came down to the final event on Saturday for the St. Bonaventure men's swimming team.
Trailing 143-140 going into the 400-freestyle relay, the Bonnies needed a victory in the final event to defeat Binghamton. The Bearcats were able to hold on, though, by winning the relay with a time of 3:07.73, while the Bona team of sophomore
Kyle Gluck and seniors Jacob Ruffolo,
William Lowe, and
Alec Thomas finished second with a time of 3:08.15.
On a day where seniors Thomas, Lowe, Ruffolo,
George Kalletta, and
Matthew Bielobradek were honored as part of Senior Day, the biggest contributions came from Gluck, graduate
Maciej Danilewski, sophomore
Maxwell Murray, and freshmen
Alexander Behr and
Zyad Morsy who were able to pick up individual victories for the Bonnies.
Danilewski registered wins in the 100-backstroke (50.68) and the 200-backstroke (1:54.16). His afternoon ended by touching the wall in a time of 1:55.69 to capture the 200-IM.
In the 200-butterfly, Behr was victorious with a time of 1:54.95.
Gluck picked up a pair of victories in the 50-freestyle (21.38) and the 100-freestyle (37.34).
Swimming a time of 4:46.94 in the 500-freestyle, Murray was able to clinch a victory as well for the Brown and White. He also placed second in the 1000-freestyle with a time of 9:56.09.
On the diving boards, Morsy won both the 1-meter dive (293.40) and the 3-meter dive (332.78). Sophomore
Lucas Dekaney placed second in both events.
The Bonnies are back at home on Thursday, Jan. 27 to take on Gannon. Meet time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
