Bonnies Swim And Dive Notches Successful Turnout For Pink Meet

11/15/2022 12:21:00 PM

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y.—The St. Bonaventure men's and women's swimming and diving programs hosted their "Pink Meet" on Nov. 5 against Cornell at the Reilly Center. The meet raised $850 through selling T-shirts and donations for the Pink Pumpkin Project in Olean, which is dedicated to breast cancer research.

The success of the meet and the backing from community was exactly what Bonnies head coach Mike Smiechowski was hoping for in organizing the event.

"Our goals for the swim and dive program go far beyond what we can accomplish in the pool. Our commitment to the community will continue to be a focal point for our program," said Smiechowski. "This meet was in honor of Coach Ethan Dale's great grandmother who battled breast cancer, and it was moving to see the supporters of the swim and dive program come together to raise money for Pink Pumpkin Project."

Smiechowski was quick to thank the Pink Pumpkin Project for their support and the service they provide to the Olean community.

"We chose Pink Pumpkin not only for their commitment to supporting patients and families with their fight against breast cancer, but for their commitment to the local community," he said. "We look forward to putting on this event every year and are excited to have such a wonderful partner in the Pink Pumpkin Project."
