Giera, Murray Set Records In Senior Day Victory Over Gannon

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Along with honoring five seniors in the Reilly Center Pool, the St. Bonaventure University men's swimming and diving team recorded a pair of records set by freshman Ben Giera and junior Maxwell Murray as part of a victory Saturday afternoon against Gannon.
 
The Bonnies secured a 181-119 triumph over the Golden Knights in their final dual-meet of the season.
 
Giera kicked off the afternoon by setting a new school record in the 1-meter dive with a score of 342.98, surpassing Zyad Morsy's score of 335.60 set last season at the A-10 Invitational.
 
The first-year diver delivered another win in the 3-meter dive (338.63), while fellow divers Lucas Dekaney and Ben O'Neill both finished second and third respectively in the 1- and 3-meter dives.
 
Murray was able set his own school and pool record in the 1000-freestyle with a time of 9:16.31, breaking the mark posted by George Eversmann when he swam a time of 9:28.08 in 1997.
 
The Penfield, N.Y. native scored another victory in the 500-freestyle (4:33.02) and finished second in the 100-backstroke (50.30).
 
Freshman Luigi Termine paced the Bonnies in the 100-backstroke, swimming a time of 49.98.
 
St. Bonaventure registered top two finishes in the 100-breaststroke with Nicholas Nakaya placing first (56.16) and teammate Knute Wargin finishing right behind him (57.20).
 
Nakaya's event win marked a streak of three victories in a row for the Bonnies as Alexander Behr finished atop the 200-butterfly with a time of 1:48.47 and Kyle Gluck swam a time of 20.90 to win the 50-freestyle.
 
Behr notched his second victory of the day by touching the wall in a time of 48.13 in the 100-butterfly.
 
Freshman Henry Wilkes won the 200-backstroke with a time of 1:53.77, while Termine placed second in this event (1:53.97).
 
In the 200-freestyle senior Tomas Botero placed second with a time of 1:42.28, while junior Tommy White earned a runner-up finish in the 50-freestyle with a time of 21.39.
 
Teddy Murphey finished second with a time of 2:05.56 in the 200-breaststroke, while Patrick Heldreth deliver a runner-up finish in the 100-freestyle (46.97).
 
The Bonnies 200-medley relay team of Termine, Nakaya, Behr, and Gluck touched the wall in a time of 1:30.13 for the victory.
 
Prior to the meet, Nakaya, Botero, Nicholas Torre, Griffin Witte, and Joshua Bannon were honored for their four years of hard work and dedication to the program.
 
The Bonnies will travel to the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio to compete in the Atlantic 10 Championships. The four-day conference championship competition will begin Wednesday, Feb. 15 and conclude Saturday, Feb. 18.
