Softball Welcomes Canisius and Dayton to Joyce Field

The St. Bonaventure University softball team remains at home to host Canisius and Dayton Tuesday and Wednesday at Joyce Field in a non-conference Little Three rivalry doubleheader. The Bonnies and Golden Griffs are slated for first pitch Tuesday starting at 3:00 p.m. Bona's and Dayton gets underway in Atlantic 10 action Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.

WEEKEND LOOK BACK

  • The Bonnies look to bounce back after taking the first of a three-game series against George Mason last week. Bona's bested the Patriots in dramatic fashion in game one Friday when Madison Stewart launched a no-doubt, walk-off home run to lift the Bonnies to a 7-6 victory. Elyse Graham also blasted a grand slam in the contest for the Brown and White.
  • In game two, Emily Piergustavo belted her first home run of the season in the third inning while Stewart, Grace Walker and Abby Suhr also drove in a run for the Bonnies.
  • Emily Phelan started all three games for the Bonnies, fanning 14 batters in 13.1 innings of work. Phelan surpassed 200 career strikeouts in the game one victory Friday afternoon.
  • George Mason took the final two games to win the series, though, including erasing a late 2-0 Bona's lead in the finale Saturday as the Patriots took a 3-2 decision.

TEAM LEADERS

  • Senior Abby Suhr leads the way offensively for the Bonnies, batting .333 in 17 games. She is tied for second on the team with eight runs scored and ranks third on the squad with 12 hits.
  • Junior Kennedy Haberl is hitting .297 and leads the Bonnies with three home runs and 10 RBIs.
  • Junior Brooke Bobbey paces the Brown and White in at-bats (76), total bases (33), hits (22), runs scored (12), stolen bases (6), triples (4) and doubles (3).
  • In the circle, junior Emily Phelan is 7-13, carrying a 4.48 ERA to go along with 87 strikeouts. Phelan is just eight strikeouts shy of her career-high of 95 set last season. She has tossed 109.1 innings this spring which is a new career-high, passing the 108.1 innings from the 2022 season.
  • Senior Elizabeth Lis is second on the Bonnies with 52.0 innings of work and has fanned 20 batters.

CANISIUS NOTES

  • Canisius enters Tuesday with a 14-13 record overall and 4-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. The Griffs have won four out of their last six contests, splitting MAAC doubleheaders with Marist and Siena while sweeping Quinnipiac.
  • Saige Alfaro leads the Griffs with a .390 batting average to go along with six doubles. Christie McGee-Ross is second on the team with a .355 batting average with two doubles and two triples.
  • In the circle, Megan Giese is 8-6 with a 3.14 ERA in 84.2 innings pitched. She also has a team-best 88 strikeouts. Alexis Churchill is 3-1 with a 2.84 ERA in 14 appearances.

DAYTON NOTES

  • Dayton comes into the week 21-13 overall and 7-2 in Atlantic 10 play. The Flyers are winners of six out of their last seven games, most recently taking two out of three from Saint Louis last weekend. The Flyers also have A-10 series wins over George Washington and UMass. Dayton currently sits atop the A-10 standings.
  • Emma Schutter and Maddie Kapsimalis lead the way offensively for Dayton. Schutter leads the team with a .438 batting average while Kapsimalis is hitting .426 on the year. Kapsimalis is first on the team with 10 doubles.
  • In the circle, Izzy Kemp is 8-5 with a 1.24 ERA, striking out 125 batters in 90.2 innings of work. She has been selected as the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week three times this season. Haven Dwyer in 10-3 on the year, carrying a 3.07 ERA in 22 appearances.

UP NEXT

  • The Bonnies head on the road following a seven-game homestand, travelling to take on UMass in a three-game Atlantic 10 series. Play gets underway Saturday with a doubleheader at 12:00 p.m.
