ROCHESTER – A new program record and several personal best times highlighted the first event of the indoor season for the St. Bonaventure men's track team Friday night at RIT.
Freshman Brendan Chapple made his Bonnies debut by winning the mile, setting the pace with a time of 4:23.90. The first-year Bona's runner was in front of 39 competitors in the event and beat second-place Patrick Klinger of Brockport by over two seconds (4:26.36). Chapple's time jumps to third overall in school history.
Also in the mile, sophomore Alex Ryan placed third at 4:29.26 and classmate Aiden Holt posted a personal best time of 4:36.69 to join the program top-10 in the event as well. Holt also led the team in the 1000 meters, posting a time of 2:48.10 that will stand fifth in program history.
Freshman Riley Dillon also jumped to the top of the program leaderboard in the 400 meters. He clocked in at 52.82 to finish second out of 12 competitors, just off the winning time of 51.94 ran by Jack Defeo of RIT. Dillon surpassed the previous school-best mark of 54.37 set last year by Christian Figueroa who finished fourth Friday night at 53.77, easily surpassing his previous record time as well.
Freshmen Aidan Hurley (54.95) and Henry Morris (55.12) also posted new top-five program times in the 400.
In the 3000, the Bonnies swept the top three spots and took five of the top-six as Zane Courtwright won with his PR time of 8:42.53, good for second on the program leaderboard. William McCarthy (9:03.72) and Casey Malloy (9:05.88) also took podium spots.
Senior Kieran Ryan ran his personal best time in the 800, finishing in 2:00.06 for the third-best time in program history. In Friday's event, he finished sixth out of 36 competitors. Classmate Brian Gleason placed eighth at 2:02.31.
