The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team hosts Massachusetts Saturday, Nov. 2 in a pivotal Atlantic 10 matchup. Kickoff for the regular season finale is slated for 4:00 p.m. at the Marra Athletics Complex.
Saturday will be a Whiteout at the Marra Athletics Complex with free pizza available for students and tailgating beginning at 3 p.m.
WHAT'S AT STAKE?
With a win, the Bonnies clinch a spot in the 2024 Atlantic 10 Tournament. The Bonnies can also clinch a postseason berth with a tie as well as a La Salle loss or tie, a Loyola Chicago loss and a Rhode Island loss.
Games to Watch:
George Washington vs. La Salle – 1:00 p.m.
Loyola Chicago vs. Saint Joseph's – 2:00 p.m.
St. Bonaventure vs. Massachusetts – 4:00 p.m.
Rhode Island vs. Davidson – 7:00 p.m.
The Bonnies are looking to clinch their first postseason berth since 2017.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies traveled to take on first-place George Mason last Saturday but fell to the Patriots 4-1 despite taking a 1-0 lead in the second half.
Kenzo Brito gave the Bonnies the edge in the opening minutes of the second half, tallying his second goal of the season in the 56th minute.
The Patriots, however, quickly responded with the tying goal in the 57th minute and the go-ahead goal in the 59th minute.
The hosts struck again in the 63rd and 65th minutes, capturing the A-10 victory.
HELPING… FOOT
Seniors Andres Javitt and Kenzo Brito lead the Bonnies with five assists each, ranking tied for seventh in the Atlantic 10.
Javitt leads the Bonnies with 13 points on four goals and five helpers. Brito sits third on the team with nine points on two goals and five assists.
BONNIES STAT LEADERS
Andres Javitt paces the Bonnies on the offensive end with four goals and five assists, both team-highs. Umechi Akuazaoku is tied for the team lead with four goals while adding a pair of assists for 10 points. Kenzo Brito, Mattia Ferretti and Rashid Aroza have also netted multiple scores for the Bonnies.
In net, Nicolas Pucci has started 14 games, making 59 saves and has posted three shutouts.
MASSACHUSETTS NOTES
- Massachusetts enters the weekend 9-3-4 overall and 4-2-1 in Atlantic 10 play. The Minutemen have picked up conference victories over Fordham, Saint Joseph's, Rhode Island and Duquesne this season. UMass was picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.
- The Minutemen are led by 2023 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Alec Hughes who leads the A-10 and ranks fifth in the NCAA with 12 goals. Hughes' 25 points sits second in the Atlantic 10 and ninth in the NCAA.
