YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – St. Bonaventure turned in three new school records and a host of personal best times over two days of action at the Youngstown State Mid-Major Invitational.
Freshman Riley Dillon gave the Bonnies a new school record in the 200 meters as he posted 23.82 to nip the previous high mark of 23.89 set by Christian Figueroa a week ago at RIT.
The 4x400 relay team also clocked in another Bona's best: Dillon, Figueroa, Kieran Ryan and Alex Ryan set a time of 3:31.27 to go to the top of the school record book.
Dillon was part of a third record to close his incredible meet with the top SBU time in the 400 at 51.47. Figueroa also moves to second with his run of 51.92.
Competition got underway on Friday with four Bonnies posting top-10 individual times in the 1000 meters.
Junior James Fitzmaurice jumped to fourth on the Bona career leaderboard with a time of 2:39.55, crushing his previous best of 2:52.78 set just a week earlier. Freshman Ryan Umiker was just behind at 2:41.07 and will slot fifth in the Bonnies record book. Fitzmaurice and Umiker each took top-10 finishes in Friday's race as well, placing eighth and ninth in YSU's final results.
Fellow freshman Brecken Riley (2:46.25) as well as junior Drew Carlson (2:47.28) jump to seventh and eighth respectively in the Bona top-10 individual times as well for the 1K.
In the mile, Bona recorded five personal bests and new top-10 times.
Senior Zane Courtwright jumps to second in the program record books as he finished fourth in Saturday's event out of 64 competitors with his time of 4:20.38. Brendan Chapple ran in the elite mile race and goes to fourth in school history (4:21.24).
Sophomores Alex Ryan (4:22.84), Aiden Holt (4:30.24) and Aiden Scattergood (4:32.85) were all strong as well: In addition to all posting PRs, Ryan moves to fifth on the program record book and also ran a top-10 race in Saturday's field as he placed seventh. Holt, meanwhile, jumps to sixth in the program record book, just ahead of Scattergood by one spot on the Bona all-time individual leaderboard.
The 800 continued the trend as Courtwright (1:58.28) along with fellow seniors Kieran Ryan (1:58.37) and Brian Gleason (1:58.93) recorded the third, fourth and fifth-fastest individual times in school history, with Ryan and Gleason cracking the two-minute barrier for the first time in the event.
Freshman William McCarthy led the way for the Bonnies in the 3000 meters with his effort of 8:56.88, good for third in school history and well better than his time of 9:03 last week. Sophomore Casey Malloy also PR'ed with a top-five school time at 9:05.19.
The Bonnies return to the Buckeye State next Saturday to compete in the Spire Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.
