WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The St. Bonaventure men's track team got the outdoor season started with a full day of action Friday at the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary.
Freshman Riley Dillon jumped to the top of the board in the program record book with his run of 51.29 in the 400 meters, besting the previous school record of 51.98 set by Christian Figueroa at last year's Atlantic 10 Championships.
Freshman William McCarthy made his debut in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time that is less than two seconds off the school record as he clocked in at 9:46.41, just the second Bona's athlete to break the 10-minute mark in the event. Senior Henry Trost also set a PR in the race (10:17.12).
Freshman Joshua Lopez posted the fifth-fastest individual time in Bona's history for the 800 meters as he clocked in at 1:59.03.
Sophomore Aiden Scattergood finished third in the 5000 meters out of 23 competitors with a time of 15:13.42. That effort will stand third in program history for the event. Classmate Casey Malloy also had a top-10 individual program performance of 15:54.26.
Senior Zane Courtwright also turned in a strong run in the 1500, beating his previous PR by over two seconds and moving to second in the program record book as he crossed the finish line in 4:02.31.
"We are proud of our athletes and their continued work ethic to improve each meet and refine their skill sets," St. Bonaventure head coach Bob Macfarlane said. "It's a long year of continuous training and racing three different championship seasons, but they never waver in accomplishing their individual goals."
The Bonnies are back in action next Saturday at the Brockport Invitational.
