FAIRFAX, Va. – The St. Bonaventure men's track team wrapped up the 2026 season with Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship Weekend, highlighted by a new school record and a host of personal bests.
Junior William McCarthy established a new Bonnies best in the 3000-meter steeplechase on Saturday evening. The third-year Bonnie finished his season with a big PR of 9:23.32 which is over eight seconds better than his existing school record of 9:31 set at last year's A-10 Championships at the same George Mason track. He placed ninth in the championship meet event.
In the 800, junior Ryan Umiker was a success story for the Bonnies as he just missed a school record with a run of 1:55.80 to place 25th out of 35 conference qualifiers. He established a new personal best with the second-best time for the Bonnies at A-10 Championships in program history.
Two of St. Bonaventure's competitors in the 1500 set new personal bests on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Nathan Sikorski led the Bonnies with his effort of 4:03.38, good for fifth individually in the school record book and nearly a second faster than his previous PR set in last year's championship meet. Freshman Jackson Frisa (4:07.42) also jumped into the program's top-10 while sophomore Kevin Renner (4:14.71) also qualified for the Bonnies.
Senior Christian Figueroa, who was honored as Bona's men's track Athlete of the Year prior to the meet, represented the program in the sprints in both the 200 meters (22.48) and 400 meters (49.67), leading the team in both while also graduating with school records in those events.
Senior Ethan Luce completed his Bonnies career to round out Saturday night's events with a run of 32:57.45 in the 10,000 meters, running at the front of the pack for much of the early laps.
On Sunday, senior Casey Malloy finished his college career by leading the Bonnies in the 5K at 15:27.02.
QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH BOB MACFARLANE
"Will McCarthy ran a very tactically strong race in the steeplechase, placing ninth overall while breaking the school record once again. The mid-distance runners showed the depth and strength of the group. Ryan Umiker had a standout performance, moving into second on the record book in the 800.
"We also got the chance to see Casey Malloy close out his career as one of our top distance runners over the past four years. His impact on the program has been tremendous; ranking second in the 5K for cross country and No. 8 for the 8K as well as top-five in both the indoor and outdoor 3K and 5K, No. 4 in the indoor 3K and No. 1 in the indoor 5K. He is a consistent competitor and key part of our distance group. We're grateful for everything he's contributed to the program.
"We also recognized another member of our distance crew, Ethan Luce, as he wrapped up four strong years with the program. He's a reliable and hardworking presence, especially in the longer events. Ethan made a lasting impact on our program. We're grateful for his dedication and the role he's played in building the strength of our distance group."
